Representing the most recent state to join OPEC, the Republic of Congo is consolidating its role as a regional oil producer and exporter by committing to strengthening collaboration and driving associated investment.

The recent state visit by OPEC Secretary General H.E. Mohammed Barkindo to Congo-Brazzaville has reaffirmed the role of oil in Africa’s energy future.

Welcomed by hydrocarbons minister, H.E. Bruno Jean Richard Itoua, Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mohammed Barkindo arrived in Congo-Brazzaville on 22 August 2021, marking OPEC’s first historical state visit to the recent member state.

Representing the organization’s first visit to the Congo, Mohammed Barkindo will lead a delegation from OPEC, promoting collaboration as well as the potential of the country’s hydrocarbon sector.  

The African Energy Chamber is honoured to be among key renowned African energy advocates awarded the Energy & Corporate Africa Leadership Award by Energy & Corporate Africa in Houston, Texas. The African Leadership Awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate key advocates in the industry that continue to shape and empower communities.  

In a bid to ensure the protection of oil and gas industry workers, as well as increase operations and production across the sector, the Minister is driving an effective vaccination rollout for all hydrocarbon workers in Equatorial Guinea.

With an ambitious Gas Master Plan, progressive petroleum regulation, and a united stakeholder approach, H.E. Bruno Itoua is focused on making deals, and will promote a pan-African energy transition at African Energy Week in Cape Town.

With significant barriers to entry preventing the equal participation by women in energy, African Energy Week in Cape Town aims to address these challenges by emphasizing the role that women will play in Africa’s energy future.
