Nicolas Bonnefoy

Dual-citizen and dual-qualified (France and England), Nicolas is an oil & gas and mining project lawyer with an exclusive focus on Africa. His experience includes acting for oil & gas and mining companies in securing the award of exploration and production rights as well as structuring, negotiating and implementing acquisitions and disposals throughout Africa.

His experience also includes acting for States and national oil companies in Africa in designing legislation, regulations and model production sharing contracts governing hydrocarbons exploration and exploitation activities. In this context, he led a significant review of legal and contractual regimes governing hydrocarbons activities in the member States of the African Petroleum Organisation. The mission was aimed at incorporating the main principles, best practices and latest trends into a model production sharing agreement.

Nicolas has worked in more than 25 African jurisdictions over the past 20 years. Although he is based in London, he lived in Libreville and Malabo for several years and travelled extensively throughout Africa over the past twenty years. He also lived in Calgary, Dallas, and Paris.
