Gregory Nott, Director at Norton Rose Fulbright and head of its Africa‑focused practice, has been appointed to the board of the African Energy Chamber (AEC). With more than three decades of experience advising energy, natural resources, infrastructure and project finance initiatives across Africa, Nott brings deep insight into regulatory frameworks, deal structuring and cross‑border investment to the Chamber, strengthening its capacity to support deal-making and investment mobilization on the continent.

Norton Rose Fulbright, which operates more than 3,000 lawyers across over 50 global offices, including Johannesburg, London, Houston and Hong Kong, has a long track record of advising on major African energy, mining and infrastructure transactions. The firm’s South African offices serve as a strategic gateway to the continent, providing legal counsel to governments, multilateral institutions and corporates on landmark projects, while regional alliances in East and North Africa enable seamless cross-border support for complex, first-in-country deals. Its energy, infrastructure and resources practice remain a cornerstone of its African operations, complemented by corporate, banking, dispute resolution and regulatory teams that continue to drive industrialization, energy diversification and investment growth across the continent.

In his 30 years of legal practice, Nott has built both broad and specialized expertise across multiple sectors. In natural resources, he has deep experience in upstream oil and gas in Southern Africa, advising international majors on strategic investments, and is active in renewables, particularly solar PV and wind under South Africa’s REIPP program. In project finance, Nott manages multi-billion-dollar pipelines including inland ports, roads, rail and infrastructure projects, as well as acquisitions and restructuring of engineering firms and shipping companies. In telecommunications, he led a team to secure a decade-long international arbitration and has supported initiatives crucial to Africa’s financial integration. Nott also advises large domestic property companies and development agencies on projects such as geothermal parks in Kenya, transmission lines between Ethiopia and Kenya, and renewable energy plants in Burundi.

“As the Chamber continues to facilitate investment and industrial growth across the continent, Gregory Nott’s appointment to the board underscores the importance of legal and regulatory expertise in structuring bankable, sustainable deals,” states NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the AEC. “With deep experience in energy, infrastructure, project finance and cross-border investment, Norton Rose Fulbright and its leadership will provide critical guidance to investors, policymakers and stakeholders shaping Africa’s energy future.”

As Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa prepares to become an independent law firm under a new brand on March 31, 2026, it will continue serving both international clients investing in Africa and African clients expanding globally, bringing its extensive African experience to bear on advisory, deal structuring and ESG compliance in support of sustainable investment.

Serving as the voice of Africa’s energy sector, the AEC – guided by a diverse board of industry leaders – plays a pivotal role in shaping the continent’s energy and infrastructure landscape. With Nott joining its ranks, the Chamber strengthens its legal and regulatory expertise, enhancing its capacity to support investment, promote sustainable development and provide strategic guidance to governments, investors and project sponsors across the continent.
