With over 600 million people without access to electricity, Africa requires innovative and collaborative solutions to make energy poverty history. An industry professional who continues to make great strides towards electrifying the continent is Sandra Chukwudozie, CEO of Salpha Energy. Featured on the 25 Under 40 Energy Women Rising Stars list, Chukwudozie is an inspiration for many.

Please share a brief overview of your journey in the energy industry that led to your current role? What are some key achievements or milestones that you are particularly proud of?

My journey in the energy industry has been both exciting and challenging. With a solid background in international management and economics, I dedicated myself to driving sustainable energy developments. One of my proudest achievements was founding Salpha Energy, a purpose-driven company committed to providing cleaner and affordable energy solutions.

We have successfully deployed over 1,400 MWh of Solar Home Systems, reducing CO2 emissions by 7,563.33 tons, slashing $1.6 million from Household & Business Energy Expenses and transforming the lives of over 413,000 people. These milestones reflect our commitment to a sustainable future.

Indeed, the energy industry poses its share of challenges. Securing funding for our initiatives was a hurdle, but we built strategic partnerships that allowed us to overcome financial barriers. Additionally, navigating regulatory frameworks in different regions required adaptability and strong networking. By collaborating with local communities and stakeholders, we found innovative solutions and ensured smooth operations.

What advice would you give to young females aspiring to excel in the energy sector? Are there any specific strategies or mindsets that helped you overcome obstacles and reach your current position?

To young females entering the energy sector, I’d emphasize the power of persistence and continuous learning. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and seek mentorship from industry leaders. Be unafraid to voice your ideas and contribute your unique perspective. Remember, breaking barriers requires determination, resilience, and the willingness to step out of your comfort zone.

My days are dynamic and purpose-driven. Mornings often start with reviewing operational updates and connecting with my team. Meetings with stakeholders, potential partners, and industry experts fill my schedule. I also allocate time for strategic planning, exploring new market opportunities, and staying updated on industry trends. A blend of collaboration, decision-making, and a touch of innovation keeps my days fulfilling.

Looking ahead, what changes or advancements do you hope to see in the energy sector, and how do you envision your role in shaping that future?

I envision a future with widespread access to clean and sustainable energy for all. I am passionate about fostering innovation, whether it’s through technological advancements or inclusive business models. As Salpha Energy continues to expand, I see our role as a catalyst for positive change. By pioneering solutions, nurturing talent, and advocating for sustainable policies, we aim to contribute significantly to the energy sector’s transformation.

Looking forward, our vision for the next five years is:

  • Greening Impact: Offsetting 37.3 million liters of petrol
  • Environmental Stewardship: Mitigating 75,496.07 tons of CO2
  • Powering Futures: Generating 19 GWh of energy
  • Empowering Economies: Offsetting $23 million in energy costs for households and businesses.
