Could you provide a brief overview of your journey in the energy industry that led to your current role? What are some key achievements or milestones that you are particularly proud of?
My journey through the industry has been long and interesting and one that I can say was destined to happen. I always had a desire to work in the industry, but I had to figure out a way to get in and make a difference. My path has been unique and self-carved, driven largely by God, relationships, my unrelenting desire for success and my commitment to excellence in service delivery.
It is not news that the industry is male-dominated and has been since inception. The biggest challenge I have faced is finding my way and place as a woman in the industry, while holding on to my core values and proving my competence in service delivery.
I would advise any young women aspiring to excel in the industry to be patient with herself and the journey and to prioritize competence over superficiality. It is your competence that would give you longevity and success in the industry.
My life is very hectic and has been so for over 15 years. I have gotten so used to it now that I don’t think I can live life any other way. My days are mostly taken up by problem solving, dealing with clients, staff, stakeholders and regulators across industries. I am also the managing director of my household and children, and I work for them every day!
For me, I would like to see a future where transacting in this industry is more seamless across borders. Energy is a global concept and advancements in the industry come from the interactions of like-minded professionals – across borders and across the entire value chain of the industry. I am building a world class energy institution, IMSE Energy, that I know would outlive me and make a positive contribution to the creation of sustainable, clean and efficient energy solutions for the benefit of the entire world.
