Could you provide a brief overview of your journey in the energy industry that led to your current role? What are some key achievements or milestones that you are particularly proud of?
My career in the energy sector began with a focus on media advocacy and partnerships. I gained valuable experience working for international media outlets such as BBC, CNBC and Euronews/Africanews, covering the moving money, finance and economics. Recognizing the critical role of energy in Africa’s development, my role involved crafting compelling narratives and driving dialogue on the need for a transition that supports economic growth and social equity.
I transitioned from journalism to establishing my own strategic media and advocacy firm, Mansa Media, where we leverage media products and strategic partnerships to advocate for effective and sound policies tailored to Africa’s unique needs. My work focuses on creating impactful messaging and facilitating high-level discussions to address key challenges and opportunities in the key sectors like energy.
Building on this experience, I joined the Global Gas Center as an Africa Advisor. In this role, I utilize my communication and advocacy expertise to support the organization’s initiatives across Africa. My responsibilities include providing strategic insights on regional energy dynamics, fostering key partnerships, and advising on policies that align with both global energy objectives and regional development priorities.

I often describe myself as an energy student, but I recognize that the industry is both male-dominated and complex. I have invested time in continuous learning and sought mentorship from industry experts, especially in understanding the complexities of a sector so rich to uplift millions of livelihoods and yet underdeveloped with limited financing and tricky policy regulations. With Africa’s transition to renewable energy presenting both opportunities and challenges, I am working to understand what approaches will be most effective for our economies and how to define and implement a just transition.

I encourage young women to focus on continuously learning about industry trends and actively build strategic professional networks. You don’t need to work in oil and gas to be an energy expert, there’s so much the sector needs that we can support as experts without jargon.

Each day starts with me catching up on the latest news and checking emails for alerts on topics and countries of interest within the industry. I then move on to a series of calls and emails. I would like to see more balanced coverage of Africa’s energy sector. Historically, it has been associated with issues like inequality and social imbalances. However, given the sector’s potential to lift millions out of poverty, positive coverage can significantly shift perceptions and attract much-needed investments.
