Industry veteran Michael Simpson has joined the Board of Directors of Oregen Energy Group, bringing more than 25 years of experience across energy policy, regulatory affairs, government relations and commercial development. His appointment strengthens Oregen’s leadership team as the company advances its strategic objectives within the energy sector.

The African Energy Chamber (AEC) welcomes Simpson’s appointment, recognizing the importance of experienced industry leaders who can support investment, innovation and responsible resource development across global energy markets. The Chamber continues to champion collaboration between governments, investors and private sector stakeholders to advance energy development and economic growth.

Simpson brings extensive experience across both the public and private sectors. He currently serves as Principal at SCG, a consulting firm supporting clients across the energy and environmental sectors through government relations, regulatory affairs, communications and advocacy services. In this role, he advises organizations navigating complex policy environments and evolving market conditions.

He is also the Founder of AugurWell AI, a proprietary platform combining advanced wellbore data analytics with predictive regulatory and political risk assessment. The platform monitors regulatory developments in Western Canada to identify emerging geotechnical and environmental drilling opportunities, helping companies identify market signals and potential opportunities ahead of formal bidding processes.

Previously, Simpson served as Assistant Deputy Minister within Alberta’s Department of Energy, where he contributed to energy policy development and government strategy. He also served as Chief Operating Officer of the Canadian Energy Centre and held leadership positions with Canadian Natural Resources and Devon Energy Canada, building expertise in regulatory processes, project development and energy market dynamics.

His appointment comes as Oregen Energy Group continues to expand its presence in Africa’s upstream sector, including identifying and advancing opportunities in Namibia’s Orange Basin. The company holds an indirect interest in offshore Block 2712A (PEL 107) through its investment in WestOil and is actively building its position in one of Africa’s most closely watched emerging exploration frontiers. Oregen has also pursued additional opportunities in the basin, including evaluating an investment in Petrovena Energy to expand its Orange Basin footprint.

“Michael Simpson’s appointment to the Oregen Energy Group Board of Directors reflects the importance of strong leadership and deep industry expertise in today’s evolving energy landscape. His experience across government, industry and regulatory environments provides valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector, and we welcome leaders who contribute to advancing investment and responsible energy development,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.

The AEC continues to support initiatives that strengthen collaboration across the global energy industry and bring together experienced leaders focused on investment, innovation and energy security.
