Job Description: 

This role’s purpose is to provide Health, Safety, Security and Environmental as well as Ethics & Compliance leadership and support the SA Manager to ensure safe, compliant and reliable operations across the SA businesses.


Job Requirements:

Responsible for leading the service delivery of health, safety and environment across a region or function, directly influencing strategic development for HS&E, monitoring HS&E performance and associated trends and providing expert guidance to leadership, setting goals and leading initiatives which support the delivery of world-class performance in HS&E, Operations Management System (OMS) conformance and regulatory compliance.

HSE and E&C lead is also the champion the Ethics and Compliance activities throughout the Southern Africa Region.


Key Responsibilites:

Review of risk management plans and make formal recommendations for improvements
Assessment of the quality of business risk process and mitigation plans, calibration of risk and independent view of barriers
Manage the frequent HSSE governance boards and identifying trends and areas for focus
Collaborate closely with S&ORA to deliver assurance assessments as per the Assurance Plan, reviewing local implementation of functional risk management requirements and guidance
Contribute to structured assurance of Emerging Risks and new business risk assessments
Lead the B2B/OSL competency programme focused on assessment and action tracking for key safety critical roles
Maintain the S&OR safety critical role process for HSSE positions, ensure roles are assessed prior to entry
Support development of capability in safety and operational management in the region including technical coaching and rigor in Risk Management
Own and develop incident investigation processes including identification and training of staff
Assessment of conformance with OMS progress on systematic management and application of continuous improvement
Maintain Current and Effective Emergency Response and Crisis Management Plans, including having appropriately trained staff and effective response to emergencies, crises and issues
Prepare the MS&L HSSE programme including the Annual Operating HSSE plan
Monitor and review OMS conformance and relevant improvement plans
Ensure accurate, timely HSSE data for the business is communicated for use in senior leader briefings
Manage and provide guidance to the E&C team. Accountable for the Ethics & Compliance program, including the development, promotion, assessment and reporting on the bpSA’s ethical and compliance programs, culture and ability to align with legal compliance requirements, the Code of Conduct and related BP standards.

Desired Expertise and Skills:

4-year Degree in Engineering or Formal Tertiary HSSE qualification

Experience
12 years +demonstrated ability in Safety and knowledge of E&C

Skills & Competencies
Experience of leading a high performing team.
Strong technical competence and expertise in HSSE & OMS
Proven experience in risk management processes and techniques
Proven experience in operations - engineering and maintenance in oil & gas or petrochemical facilities (or other high hazard industries)
Proven experience in incident investigation procedures and classification
Knowledge of logistics, terminals, retail operations with strong business acumen and knowledge of retail business
Proven track record of successfully run B2B business and/or operations within a region
