At the Invest in African Energy Forum Paris, Georja Calvin-Smith, will host as the Master of Ceremonies, driving dialogue amongst speakers and participants.

The African Energy Chamber (AEC), the voice of Africa’s energy sector, is honored to announce that Georja Calvin-Smith, Paris based writer, journalism trainer, TV news presenter and producer, will host the Invest in African Energy Forum as the Master of Ceremonies (MC). The event is set to take place at the Westin Paris Vendome in France on the 1st of June, where European and African nations will unite to strengthen Africa’s burgeoning energy sector.

With a decade of work in international magazine and current affairs broadcasting, Calvin-Smith has established herself as a prominent figure in the field of writing, journalism, presenting and producing. After studying law in the UK, she ventured into news reporting and presenting in Manchester, working for esteemed media outlets like the BBC, ITV, and HBO in New York. Her portfolio encompasses a wide range of captivating stories, features, and documentaries, showcasing her versatility and adeptness in tackling diverse subjects.

Calvin-Smith’s career has taken her to locations around the world, allowing her to gain a global perspective on important issues. Currently, she produces and hosts the daily ‘Eye on Africa’ bulletin and anchors the weekly ‘Across Africa’ magazine show at France 24. Her work at an international news network broadcasting in English, French, and Arabic attests to her ability to connect with audiences from different backgrounds and regions.

In addition to her journalistic work, Calvin-Smith regularly collaborates with the United Nations and other international organizations as a moderator for high-level debates and dialogues. Her expertise in leading nuanced discussions has been acknowledged at events such as the Luanda Biennale, the pan African Forum for the culture of Peace, and the UN’s world press freedom day event in Jakarta. She has also facilitated discussions with policymakers at the World Export Development Forum and the African Development Bank. By asking thought-provoking questions and encouraging dialogue, she can create an environment that fosters understanding and collaboration between European investors and African stakeholders.

Involved in climate change and economic discussions, Calvin-Smith has played a significant role in shaping dialogue on climate change and Africa’s economy. She guided keynote sessions at the COP21 climate conference in Paris and has also moderated televised debates for the African Development Bank in Ahmedabad, India, and Busan, South Korea. Additionally, as the chair of the OECD’s Africa Forum in Paris, she facilitated discussions among ministers and presidents on the economic challenges faced by the continent.

Meanwhile, Calvin-Smith’s notable interviews with several heads of state, including presidents of Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Namibia, Mali, and Angola, highlight her ability to engage with influential leaders. These interviews provide insights into the socio-political and economic landscape and foster a deeper understanding of African affairs. With this expertise and experience in journalism and African affairs, Calvin-Smith is well-suited to MC this event and guide attendees through a series of engaging discussions and presentations. She is also well equipped to connect influential leaders from Africa, with those from European due to her vast networking experience.
